Description

Minocycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the tetracycline class. It is primarily used to treat a variety of bacterial infections by inhibiting the growth of bacteria. Minocycline works by preventing the synthesis of proteins essential for bacterial growth, effectively stopping the infection.

Dosage and Administration

Adults:

Children (age 8 and older):
Dose based on body weight, usually 4 mg/kg on the first day, then 2 mg/kg once daily.

How It Works (Mechanism of Action)

Minocycline exerts its antibacterial effects by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, blocking the attachment of aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosome, thereby preventing the bacteria from producing proteins necessary for their growth and reproduction.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness or lightheadedness

Missed Dose / Overdose
