Diarex

Description

Diarex is an effective anti-diarrheal medication used to treat symptoms of diarrhea, including acute and chronic conditions. It works by slowing down the movement in the gut, allowing for more water absorption from the fecal matter and firming up loose stools.

Uses / Indications

• Acute diarrhea (including traveler’s diarrhea)
• Chronic diarrhea (associated with conditions like irritable bowel syndrome)
• Diarrhea due to certain infections or medications
• Frequent watery bowel movements
• Control of diarrhea during travel or before events

Dosage and Administration

Adults:
Start with 4 mg initially, followed by 2 mg after each loose stool, not exceeding 8 mg in one day unless directed by a doctor.

Children 6 years and older:
2 mg after each loose stool, not to exceed 4 mg per day.

Missed Dose / Overdose

Missed a dose?
Take it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double up.

Overdose symptoms:

• Severe constipation
• Abdominal cramps
• Dizziness or lightheadedness
• Nausea or vomiting

Contact a poison control center or seek emergency medical help immediately.

Contraindications

• Allergic to loperamide or any other ingredient in Diarex
• Acute dysentery (bloody diarrhea) or colitis caused by antibiotics
